Iconic French designer Thierry Mugler has died at the age of 73.
The 40-year-old singer, who had chic outfits designed for her by Mugler, paid tribute to him by sharing a beaming black-and-white throwback photo of him on her website.
'Manfred, I am so honored to have known you and to work within your beautiful world,' Cadwallader said in an Instagram post paying tribute to Mugler, referencing Mugler's given first name.
Bella Hadid appeared to be speechless as she wrote 'Nonononono' and added a somber emoji.
Following the announcement, Kourtney Kardashian posted a picture on her Instagram story showing her famous family all dressed in Mugler's designs.
Ross went on to call Mugler' a defining force in fashion, while praising his 'futuristic' designs.
Singer Diana Ross shared an image featuring her alongside the designer, with the caption : "I will miss you Thierry Mugler this was a wonderful time in our lives."
She noted the 'spectacle' at Mugler's shows of that era thanks to the participation of top models and musicians like George Michael and James Brown.
'It was the ultimate mix of beauty, fashion, music, art and culture.
Other designers were among those serenading Mugler, including Christian Siriano.
fashion in 2002 before his brand was set to be shut down, but remained an influence on fashion for the next two decades.
Elle editor-in-chief Nina Garcia called Mugler 'truly a visionary' in her own post.
'His designs shaped a fashion era and influenced a new generation of designers that weren't afraid of taking risks,' she wrote.
He was an incredible force of imagination, he dared women to wear their sexual powers like a weapon.
"He was timeless and ahead of his time," supermodel Jerry Hall – the face of his bestselling Angel perfume – said of the designer in 2019.
“ He knew all about gender fluidity and his clothes reflected the heat and sexuality of the late 70s and early 80s, ” she told the New York Times.
Though Mugler retired from the label that bore his name in 2002, he did not give up on making clothes.
He was responsible for Beyoncé's science fiction-inflected Sasha Fierce looks in the late 2000s.
Throughout his career, Mr Mugler worked with multiple celebrities including Beyonce, Cardi B, and Lady Gaga.
In 2019, he created Kim Kardashian ’ s Met Gala look, a latex dress dripping in crystals.
"We are devastated to announce the passing of Mr Manfred Thierry Mugler on Sunday January 23rd 2022," said a post on the designer's official Facebook account.
Born in Strasbourg in December 1948, he arrived in Paris aged 20 and created his own label "Cafe de Paris" in 1973, a year before founding Thierry Mugler.
Mugler cast trans models in his runway shows as early as the 1980s, and frequently collaborated with drag artists and club kids on and off the runway, including corsetmaker Mr Pearl.
By the late 1990s, the Mugler name was associated more with fragrance than fashion, thanks to his blockbuster perfume Angel.
He also had a troubled relationship with Clarins, who put out his line of fragrances and more or less owned the rights to his name from 1997 onwards.
In 2002, the fashion division of Mugler shut down but the brand was revived in 2010 under the creative direction of stylist Nicola Formichetti and later Casey Cadwallader.
Mugler's use of corsetry and his exaggerated approach to the female body has drawn criticism, but the designer was no less extreme with his own physique.
I have always been fascinated by the human body, and I wanted to pay homage to what it can do," he said.
Mugler's official Instagram page confirmed his passing Sunday night.
'May his soul Rest In Peace. '
His impact continued even in the week prior to his death, as Twitter obsessed over Alexa Demie's character Maddie seen trying on one of Mugler's dresses in an episode that aired on January 16.
Not only a designer to the stars, Mr Mugler was famous for his line of perfumes, including Alien, Angel, and his newest fragrance Angel Nova, as well.
'There came a time when I said to myself : let's put things back in order, to go further and higher. '
I 've fought so much.
I'm a superhero, so it's normal to have the face of one. '
' I know what being alone is- really deeply,' he told Vogue in 2019.
According to Vulture, Mugler 'was best known for his sculptural use of tailoring.
One of his most famous gowns was Demi Moore's iconic dress from the film Indecent Proposal.
Grace Jones was among Mugler's early muses.
Eventually, he began a long collaboration with legendary rock star and fashion icon David Bowie.
He was critical of a 2019 Dior show that used a song by Deee-Lite, a band that had recorded music specifically for a Mugler show in the 1990s.
he wrote on Instagram, followed by a thinking emoji.
Rest In Peace my friend, devastated by your loss, sending love to your family and nearest and dearest."
